1. Information 

 

 Les Misérables is a 2012 musical drama film directed by Tom Hooper, grounded on the stage musical comedy, which is acclimated from Victor Hugo’s novel. The film stars Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, Eddie Redmayne, and Samantha Barks. It  entered critical  sun, won three Academy Awards, and is known for its live singing performances. 


 2. Plot 

 

 The story is set in 19th- century France and follows Jean Valjean, a former con who breaks parole to start a new life. He becomes a  reputed man but is pursued by the  grim Inspector Javert. 
 
 Meanwhile, a woman named Fantine loses everything and is forced into harlotry to support her son, Cosette. Valjean takes Cosette in and raises her as his own. Times  latterly, Cosette falls in love with a  youthful revolutionary, Marius, during a failed pupil  insurrection. Valjean saves Marius but chooses to leave to  cover Cosette’s future. 
 
 Javert,  floundering with his moral beliefs, takes his own life. In the end, Valjean dies peacefully, having  set up redemption, and is guided into the afterlife by Fantine. 

 

3. Main Characters 

 

Jean Valjean( Hugh Jackman) – A former con seeking redemption. 


Javert( Russell Crowe) – A strict police inspector who pursues Valjean. 


Fantine( Anne Hathaway) – A  floundering  mama  who sacrifices everything for her son. 


Cosette( Amanda Seyfried) – Fantine’s son, raised by Valjean. 


Marius( Eddie Redmayne) – A  youthful revolutionary in love with Cosette. 


Éponine( Samantha Barks) – A girl  intimately in love with Marius. 


Thénardiers( Sacha Baron Cohen & Helena Bonham Carter) – Greedy bonifaces who exploit others. 


 
4. Conclusion 

 

 The film explores themes of justice, love, immolation, and redemption. Valjean's  metamorphosis shows the power of kindness, while Javert’s fate highlights the  troubles of rigid morality. The revolutionaries' struggle symbolizes the fight for freedom, and the film ends on a hopeful note with Valjean’s peaceful  end and the  continuing spirit of those who fought for a better world.
